It seems as if Jay-Z was listening to quite a bit ’90s rock while recording his new solo album, Magna Carta Holy Grail. We already told you about the song “Holy Grail”, which references lyrics from Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” (per the approval of Courtney Love). Now, Jay-Z has shared the lyrics to “Heaven” and this time, it’s R.E.M. receiving love (and a big ol’ royalty check). The song’s chorus pulls from R.E.M.’s “Losing My Religion” (“That’s Me in the corner / That’s me in the spotlight / Losing my religion”), as you can see below:
Magna Carta Holy Grail arrives July 4th. Check back tomorrow to see how Jay-Z’s works in lyrics from Weezer’s “My Name Is Jonas”.
